Zuckerbergs naive view on AI is dangerous

Mark Zuckerberg wrote an essay about AI. Below is a quick short reply.

The Future is for Everyone - The Path to a Positive AI Future

Quote:

.. Superintelligence will be among the most important technologies in history, so its opportunities and challenges will likely be greater than any we've seen in our lifetimes. We should take this very seriously.

Still, it is surprising that the discourse from many developing AI is so filled with doom.

Surprising? Anyone who looks around a bit can see why people are pessimistic. We live in an economic system that is not aligned with the interests of humanity. Since 50+ years we know about climate change. People have warned for ages. Nothing happened. Nada. Trillions are pumped into weapons and wars where, on the other hand, people are still dying of hunger. Social media (and the AI that it includes) is used to manipulate people and has led to right-wing dictatorships and hate. And we all saw who Zuckerberg and the other tech oligarchs lined up behind Trump.

So Zuckerberg is »surprised«? Wow. That level of naïveté is quite astonishing.

Having AI systems aligned with human interests is hard enough already. But all these AI systems are developed in an economic system that is already not aligned with human interests.

Tell us, Mark, why did you build that huge underground bunker in Hawaii? And why do all your billionaire buddies build those bunkers?

Zuckerberg suggests that we should have more Open Source AI. I really agree here: All of AI should belong to all of humanity. It needs to be Open Sourced after being security-tested by independent research institutes.

Zuckerberg then goes into the typical nationalist rhetoric on how it needs all to be done under »American Leadership«. And he does not see the irony when the USA is on the brink of falling into a fascist dictatorship.

He then calls for an arms race with China and demands that the USA is quick in building new nuclear power sources and data centers.

It is exactly this kind of arms race that leads to a situation where AI security is neglected and people will not care about alignment.

How can you expect to have an AI model aligned with humanity's interests when you and the people who build it do not have humanity's interests in mind? This creates the existential risks!

Sorry, Mark. Your essay does not cut it. Reading it, I am even more worried than I was before. When there is a lack of even understanding what is wrong, then it is hard to see how the risks will be avoided.
